July 2011

As I am writing this letter, I am in preparation to go and speak in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan for five days at a youth camp. At the same time, I am reflecting upon some special times that I have had in the last few weeks.

I had a great vacation with my family up on Burt Lake. What a beautiful place to be! On this lake - attached with the Crooked River, Crooked Lake, Indian River and Mullet Lake - there are, literally, sections where you think that you are in the Caribbean.

This summer, we are seeing unprecedented growth at The River. Attendance is up anywhere from 17% - 33% each and every Sunday compared with a year ago. In the past week, my wife and I, again, hosted a Newcomer's Reception at our house. This is where individuals can come, get to know us a little better, ask questions about the ministry, investigate their faith and do it in a very comfortable setting. We have been doing this for a couple years, and the response has been fabulous. We are going to continue these smaller events, and in fact, pick up the pace.

Besides preparing for Sunday morning Experiences, youth camps, leadership evaluations, weddings and more, we are also anticipating an incredible time at the Leadership Summit. This is an event that Willow Creek Association sponsors every year. We will be participating at Kensington Community Church. In our group there will be around 140+ represented. If you would like additional information on this, and why we go, you can look it up at www.willowcreek.com/events/leadership.

Toward the end of August, leading into Labor Day, I will be out of the country traveling in Tanzania. I look forward to what God has in store to speak to me about and to get ready for an incredible fall ministry season.

On October 2nd, The River will be going to three Sunday morning Experiences: 9:00am, 10:30am and 12:00noon. More options, more opportunities for people to invite, to attend and to be changed by the life-changing message of Christ.

Excited to be alive, to be part of God's Kingdom work and you make it possible! Thank you so much!
